Q: Is Shekinah God's powerful female equal? A: No. Shekinah means the majestic presence or glory of God among his people.
The Da Vinci Code claims that "Early Jews believed that the Holy of Holies in Solomon's Temple housed not only God but also his powerful female equal, Shekinah" (Brown, D., 2004, p.318).
This is blatantly false. Shekinah means the majestic presence or glory of God which has descended to "dwell" among his people (JewishEncyclopedia.com, 2002, Shekinah). The Shekinah was the presence of God that Israel experienced at the Tabernacle (Exodus 25:8, 29:45) which was long before the Temple in Jerusalem.
